Rosanne Limoncelli - "The Four Queens of Crime"
Dear Reader,
I’ve always been a big reader, and a secret writer. The Four Queens of Crime , my latest mystery novel is no secret. So why did I keep my writing secret, you ask?
Sadly, it was mainly due to a few teachers telling me that I wasn’t a writer, that I wouldn’t, couldn’t, shouldn’t be a writer. It wasn’t until grad school that I began to believe I was a writer.
Those excellent teachers helped me believe in myself. I think I became a teacher because I wanted to be the kind of encouraging mentor I didn’t always have. In the meantime, I had buried myself in reading books and watching movies, giving myself a great background to be a better writer.
I tell my own students; writing is like playing a musical instrument or a sport. Being a good writer isn’t about talent, it's about inspiration, hard work and practice, and finding your audience. When I finally let myself be a writer, I went all out. I attended conferences, read every book on writing, signed up for classes in person or on line, I joined two writers’ groups, and I practiced. And I practiced.
My love of books served me, and my research experience from those years of school helped me with historical fiction. The Four Queens of Crime, which is a mystery that take place in 1938 England, is the fifth novel I have written but the first one to be published. It is an homage to the Queens of Crime; Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, Ngaio Marsh, and Margery Allingham. A locked room mystery with a variety of characters and themes that parallel our modern times, and a fun puzzle to solve.
To the writers out there I say; keep working hard and never give up. And to the dear readers I say; blessings to you all, you are why we write!
