Molly Parker - " A Proposal To Die For"
Dear Reader,
I expected less murder to be involved when I started writing A PROPOSAL TO DIE FOR.
I suspected there might be some murder… just less. And I definitely didn’t expect it to involve decorative water features.
As a long-time romance author, I knew there was always going to be some sort of “happily ever after” for Jess, a wedding proposal planner stuck at a luxurious mountain spa with the clients from hell. Growing up, I had two writing role models – Jessica Fletcher from Murder, She Wrote and Mary Fisher, the romance novelist from She-Devil. This story is a fun and inevitable blending of those two worlds. I get to research extremely creepy methods of murder and script dreamy (though sometimes painfully awkward) meet-cutes.
In PROPOSAL, Jessamine Bricker meets resort chef Dean Osbourne in the midst of a pseudo-social work retreat, surrounded on all sides by a blithely obnoxious wedding party. Jess must save her home/office space by planning a social-media-perfect betrothal for a former high school classmate to the Pecan Prince of Tennessee. The bride is demanding and displeased, despite their sumptuous spa accommodations. The anxious Pecan Prince crashes the pre-bridal retreat, creating logistical chaos for Jess - and then the bodies start piling up.
While I’d initially planned a love story for Jess and Dean, the more I plotted, the more I realized it was an old-fashioned “tactless rich people trapped in an isolated, opulent location with a killer” murder mystery. The budding romance gives Jess the behind-the-scenes access she needs to solve the mystery, while also creating space for Dean’s grumpy charms and Jess’s ability to tease a (rusty) laugh out of him. Jess sees the little details and her previous career as a wedding planner taught her how to handle crises with a smile – even if she’s spiraling into profanity-fueled pandemonium on the inside.
Murder, wedding-related hilarity, found family, goat yoga, old grudges, romance, sauna peril - PROPOSAL has it all! I enjoyed working on it so much that I’ve written another mystery novel due for release April 21, 2026. A CUTE LITTLE MURDER is the story of a former teen sleuth’s sidekick reconnecting with her old partner to solve a century-old disappearance at a Prohibition-era hotel.
Happy Reading,
